Breaking Addictive Cycles Group Therapy
Breaking Addictive Cycles
Unburdening Shame Through Internal Family Systems Group Therapy
"Shame corrodes the very part of us that believes we are capable of change." ― Brené Brown
Beyond Behavior: Healing the Parts That Drive Addiction
Impulsive behaviors are often attempts to self-soothe. They usually stem from and create further shame, establishing a cycle that feels difficult to break. After many attempts to swear off and failing, some worry or start to believe they can't change. This is compounded by a culture that pathologizes certain behaviors while praising willpower and self-control.
However, these behaviors often make sense when considering someone's lived experience. As a Baltimore therapist specializing in IFS therapy, I understand that the path to healing lies not in fighting against these behaviors, but in understanding their protective purpose.
A Different Approach to Recovery
This group therapy in Baltimore is committed to your self-agency and is not focused on abstinence, but instead on creating inner harmony to decrease reactive internal dynamics. We work with the parts of self involved in addictive patterns, understanding their protective intentions while unburdening the shame that fuels the cycle.
In a supportive and intimate environment, we focus on the aspects of yourself affected by shame, allowing you to slow down and cultivate awareness of your inner world using IFS parts language and techniques.
